Rookie Tight Ends, is this whole position group one giant fail? A pupu platter of poo poo?
I’ll be honest, I’m not really sure where to start… I guess we’ll go in order of how they were drafted.
- Cole Kmet | One of 15 tight ends in the Bears pipeline, but probably already the best. He’s not going to have much value if any at all this year. He’s got question marks at coach and quarterback, I’d pass that ish. I think long term he’s an Anthony Fasano type player, which is certainly useful in real life, but that doesn’t have much fantasy value on the whole.
Devin Asiasi | He’s a smart football player, which explains why the Evil Empire took him in the third. You have to like his fit in an offense that’s been successful at the position recently. A lot of his success falls on the shoulders of Mr. Stidham. He’s a nice get in dynasty, and a late lottery ticket in 12 and 14 league drafts. - Josiah Deguara | Loved him as 5th round prospect or later. I was shocked he went above a couple of tight ends as he was another one of the Packers questionable draft picks. He’s going to have one blow-up game this year where everyone makes the Nick Young Meme face, and then every other game he’ll be irrelevant. Book it. But, Go Bearcats!
- Dalton Keene | He’s a Belicheck player. He could be relevant he might not. I’ve been burned by the shuffle of New England offensive players for years and because of that will always be hesitant. He’s going to be a better real player than fantasy option.
- Adam Trautman | He might end up being the best fantasy option from this year’s draft. An extremely serious player who loves football, I think he’ll fit right in with Drew Brees. Jared Cook is shopping for retirement communities as we speak, so I like Trautman’s chances of breaking into the lineup early. I think he’s worthy of draft choice this year in a juggernaut offense that added Emmanuel Sanders.
- Harrison Bryant | I mean he’s better than Njoku. He’s a long term option more so than a 2020 option. He could eventually work himself into a solid role in that offense, but I’d bet that’s a couple of years down the line.
- Albert Okwuegbunam | The new T.J. Houshyourmamma. A freak athlete who had a lot of helium after his freshman year. After a couple of injury-plagued years, he found himself fall to the fourth round. His biggest issue is a pretty loaded Tight End room right now. The Broncos also added Judge Juedy and K.J. Hamler in the draft and Melvin Gordon in free agency. That is a lot of options for Drew Lock and I’m fairly confident very few of those will be to Albert. No way I was typing that last name again.
- Colby Parkinson | See Josiah Deguara. Gregg Olson will be hurt by Week 8. Will Dissly will be hurt by Week 12. Hellllooooo fantasy playoffs.
- Brycen Hopkins | What kind of name is Brycen? What’s the origin of that? Here’s the Rams doing their best Seahawks impersonation, but hey, at least it’s not Drew Sample in the second round…
- Charlie Woerner | Yoooo, spelled Warner wrong there buddy. Another Rookie tight-end that can’t block with a limited ceiling. Hopefully, you won’t ever be in a position that makes your reach this deep but certainly wouldn’t recommend taking a flyer here.
- Tyler Davis | Ahem, who Jags?
- Stephen Sullivan | Some people actually like this guy as a prospect. Prototypical size for the position, just never had enough usage or playing time at LSU. He could be an interesting guy to follow.
And why wasn’t Thaddeus Moss drafted? That’s just wild. Redskins might have something with him. He’s got some Witten in his offensive game.
